Feza Kessy: ‘Music is my job, my life, my everything, I expect that to feed me and my family’ (Interview)

Hatimaye zimebaki siku tu hadi aliyewahi kuwa Miss Dar City Centre Feza Kessy kuachia single yake ya kwanza iitwayo Amani ya Moyo. Single hiyo iliyotayarishwa na producer Ben Mwamba wa Mpo Africa Studio na kufanyiwa mixing na Marco Chali wa MJ Records inatarajiwa kutoka Jumatatu ijayo, February 11.

Hii ni interview aliyowahi kufanya na jarida la Bongo5 kuhusu muziki wake.

Unaimba style gani? Unarap, unaimba R&B ama kiduku?

(Anacheka) Kila kitu!! I would say my music is afro pop, R&B, Soul and I rap kidogo.

Muziki kwako unauchukulia vipi? Unafanya for fun ama kazi?

Music has been my passion for a long time so sasa hivi nilivyosema I’m coming back into music… before kwa mfano like a few years back it was just talent, a hobby but now I am taking it very seriously, it’s my career right now, yaani that’s my job, my life, my everything, I expect that to feed me and my family so naichukulia kama a business venture, it’s very serious and because ni what I love to do.

Na unaamini kuwa muziki utakuletea chakula mezani?

Ohh yes naamini sana hivyo. My mon thinks I am crazy (anacheka). But it’s good to be crazy!!

Hii tuseme ni kama coincidence kwasababu sasa hivi models wengi, former Miss Tanzania, tumeona Jini Kabula, (Mirian Jolwa) na Rashida Wanjara wana kundi lao nadhani ulishaliskia linaitwa Scorpion Girls na wengine wengine wanaofanya modeling wanaingia kufanya muziki, najua wewe pia wanaweza kusema hivyo kwamba ni mkumbo fulani hivi, unaweza kulizungumziaje hilo?

Kwanza mimi napenda kusema nilienda Miss Tanzania my passion was singing. Nilienda pale kuonesha talent yangu ya kuimba ili nionekane. So that was my aim kwasababu nilijaribu kwenda kwa different producers na nini, na kama unavyojua the game ni ngumu, it’s very hard, ikawa ngumu kwa mimi kubreakthrough to even get a producer who would work with me. Lakini wale watu wa miss walivyoniapproach mimi, to me was like I am beautiful let me use this opportunity to get what I want. Hiyo ndio ilikuwa plan yangu mimi na with this other girls sijui, I am not sure kwanini wameondoka from the miss kuja kwenye music industry, I don’t know.

Miaka mitano unajiona utakuwa wapi kimuziki?

I don’t know. But ukiuliza hata watu wangu wa karibu na my family they always say Feza dreams very big. When I was 17 nilikuwa nasema I’m gonna be Miss World, that’s what I was saying, it was just I dreamt big, hata kama it didn’t happen, I always dream big. Kwahiyo mimi hapa for now with my music I believe I can take Tanzania to another level. Naweza nikasimama with big artists, sijui Beyonce, Rihanna, that’s where I see myself kiukweli, and I am not gonna stop dreaming big, that’s me.

Unatamani kufanya collabo na wasanii gani hapa Tanzania na nje?

Tanzania I would like to do a collaboration with Mwana Falsafa, TID, Ngwea, kidogo niko oldschool. I still love the Ngwea, the Mwana FA, I still love Nurah I don’t where he is. Hawa wapya wapya I think it will be Ommy Dimpoz. Internationally, I would love to do a collaboration with……..Ohh my God this is difficult, Rihanna, Lauryn Hill… I am so oldschool Tony Braxton, these are the people ambao nimekuwa nikiwapenda when I was growing up.

Unajua muziki kibongobongo ni mgumu kidogo yaani kuna challenge za hapa na pale, Djs hawapigi nyimbo mpaka uwahonge na vitu kama hivyo, wewe umejiandaa vipi?

Mimi I really depend on God to be quite honest. Unajua this music thing a lot of people wako talented, a lot of people wanafanya nice music lakini unakuta it’s not being played na nini, kiukweli hiyo namuachia Mungu. I believe kwamba if the product is good watu watasikia tu, I believe so. And that only happens ukiwa unaamini some higher powers kwasababu mimi siwezi kufanya chochote, it’s up to God, it’s up to people.

Unategemea kufanya video zako wapi sababu Tanzania kuna challenge kwamba video nyingi zinaishia kupigwa hapa hapa tu, na wewe una ndoto za kupenya zaidi, una mikakati gani kukivuka hicho kiunzi?

Really I think hapa hapa Tanzania we have people ambao wanaweza wakafanya video nzuri tu. I think problem inakuja kwenye payment. I think if we paid the production company hela inayoeleweka then would really give you something that’s nice. And not kuwasema wasanii lakini we are too cheap sometime. I don’t think ni lazima kusafiri kwenda Nairobi, South Africa wherever kufanya a good video, I think good video inatoka hapa hapa, it’s just creativity, it’s just finding the right production team cause vifaa vipo just that tunajaribu kucram na kufanya vitu vile vile, so ukiweka a little bit of creativity and the right production team we can have something really good from hapa hapa Tanzania, I believe that kiukweli. And honestly after that unajua siku hizi we don’t make use of social media inavyotakiwa. If your product is really good somewhere someone ataiona tu, kwa mfano when you put it on YouTube wherever it will get there somehow ,somewhere. Halafu pia kuna another thing wasanii wa Tanzania tukiweza kuunite, I think kuna shida ya unity with the most artists in Tanzania kila mtu anataka kutoka kivyake, kila mtu anataka kumzidi mwenzake it’s fine but the competition that we have is not constructive.

Unajua that’s another thing when you believe in God and when you believe kwenye muda wake yeye things really work out. Kwa mfano ningeanza muziki nilivyokuwa ile 18 I don’t think ningeweza kuwa mimi, I don’t think ningeweza kugundua my style or what I want to do, I think I was too young to do that ndio maana this is the time, I believe this is the time cause najijua mimi ni nani najua Feza ni nani, najua Feza anaweza kwenda mpaka hapa, Feza hawezi kwenda mpaka hapa. So it’s just a beautiful thing to know who you are and what you want to do and that’s why naamini sana music can really feed me and my family because siingii kwenye muziki kusuasua.

Kwa mfano the last three months niko THT wananisaidia na vocal training, sio kwamba sijui kuimba but it’s because I want to go to another level sio tu unakaa unaenda studio unaimba, I am training my voice, I am working out, nakimbia beach kama kichaa(anacheka), so that mwisho wa siku when you see your product mtu akijaribu kucritisize anakosa hata kitu cha kuongea. I am not gonna leave kwamba uzuri wangu ndio unibebe kwenye video, I want it to be proper and I hope kwamba it will be good.
