Jigga Jay Z arrives in Dar!

THE eagerly awaited show by the American hip hop superstar Shawn Corey Carter alias ‘Jay-Z’ takes place today at the Diamond Jubilee hall in Dar es Salaam.

Jay-Z, who is also a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) ambassador, arrived this morning in a private jet at 7.00am with a group of 29 members aligned to his recording label.

Hando said the musician will hold talks with the Prime Minister, Edward Lowassa, this afternoon.

Fans expect to be treated to some of Jay-Z’s standout cuts including “99 Problems”, “Hard Knock Life” and “Encore”. He is to be joined on stage for his performances by Roc-A-Fella’s own Memphis Bleek, DJ Green Lantern and Lenny S.

According to Hando, the Def Jam Recordings President’s girl friend– pop diva Beyonce Giselle Knowles, is part of the contingent.

The event, seen as the biggest hip-hop show of all time in the city will be coloured by performances from several local artistes before the American rapper takes to the stage at 23:15 p.m to thrill the crowd.

Hando named the local acts as Nako2nako, Ray C, TID & Top Band and Jo Makini.

Jay-Z recently joined forces with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and MTV Networks to highlight the global water crisis and will film a special documentary “The Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life” during the tour to be broadcast around the world by MTV in November.

The film will feature first-person accounts of meetings with people around the world who lack water.

According to MTV based country representative Christine Mosha alias ‘Seven’, Jay-Z is also scheduled to perform in Ghana, Angola, South Africa and Gabon during his Africa tour organized by Vodacom Tanzania and MTV Base.

A total of 800 free entry tickets for the Jay-Z show were expected to be awarded to lucky winners of the sms competition launched by Vodacom.
