Nakaaya Sumari has planned a month long trip to the United States. She will depart Tanzania on April 27th and spend several days in Amsterdam, where will celebrate Queensday, the largest national celebration in the Netherlands. From Amsterdam she will travel to the United States where she will spend a month networking and continuing to work on her album. She is going as a guest of the Kuji Foundation to help them promote their projects in Tanzania. The Kuji Foundation has partnered with the United African Alliance Community Center on projects that empower the community in the Arumeru District. Nakaaya has worked closely with these two organizations for several years.

In 2006, the Kuji Foundation and the UAACC launched a solar program whereby they installed solar units in 85 households in Imbeseni Village. These households had never had access to electricity previously. Nakaaya served as a translator and community liason for the project and was inspired by the work these two organizations were able to get accomplished, as well as the impact it had on the local community. The Kuji Foundation is currently raising money to buy more solar units to be installed in Tanzania.

Nakaaya will share information on Tanzanian culture and life with various groups while touring. She also has performances scheduled in Sacramento, California and Atlanta, Georgia. Nakaaya will also meet with several student groups at a number of universities to share experiences and to promote Tanzania. The trip promises to be very fruitful for her.

Nakaaya is encouraging everybody to continue to check her website, http://www.nakaaya.com/ , as she will be updating it regularly with pictures and comments from her trip.
