To All East African Artists: 2017 is your year

Indeed it’s a new year and as a region, we anticipate significant improvement in our music. It’s time for us to take over the crown from West Africa. We’ve got too much potential, going by the transitions that have taken place in our music industry.

Unity is a paramount thing for us to make it a reality. We need to come under an umbrella as East African artists. This should purely be a year of collaborations, and this is what has made West Africa to be a head of uses I’m not implying that we should copy exactly what they are doing but we should learn something from them and make things better.

Imagine of a situation where we have East African big wigs like Alikiba and Jaguar on one track, rappers like Navio, Nyashinski and Khaligraph doing something together, Chibu doing a collabo with Collo and Sauti Sol with Navy Kenzo on one track. I’m telling you that it will surely be a game changer.

In addition to that, our artists should also try recording with different producers in our region so as to add flavour to our sound.” Mzee wa commercial” aka AY has been quoted several times saying “We can’t keep doing things the same way, using the same tactics and expect different results.”

Our artists should also focus more on branding and marketing themselves. As a musician who want to go places, you need to heavily invest in quality audio and video and of course do media tours (Kenya,Uganda,Tanzania,South Africa and Nigeria) to show fans what you got. This is the perfect way of promoting your work and marketing yourself. Try this with just three hit songs and see the outcome.

Hope our artists learn something from this.
