Zanzibar Music Awards 2006, For the first time in Zanzibar

Zanzibar Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL),of Radio Station Zenji 96.8 FM for the first time in Zanzibar, is organizing Zanzibar Music Awards, scheduled for 25th February 2006.The objective of the Music Awards is to nourish and nurture the distinguished Zanzibari culture that is vulnerable to run into extinction due to invasion of many foreigners as Zanzibar is one of the rare tourist centers of the world.

The Music Awards intends to bring to light Zanzibari Culture that is expressed in the form of music that Only Artists from the Isles will be awarded in the fields of Taarab (Kidumbak, Asilia and Modern), Dance Music, Drama and the upcoming and fast growing Zanzibari Hip Hop popular amongst the young stars, Zenji Flava

This is an annual event and this year it will have 16 awards overall to name Favourite male and Female artists in Modern and Asilia Taarab, Kidumbak Group, Favourite Male and Female drama artists, Favourite Band and Favourite Male and female Zenji Flava Artists and Upcoming artist and Overall artist of the year.

Zanzibar Music Awards will as well recognize special talents used to express culture in drawings and carvings, literature, etc.Zanzibar Music Awards 2006 will be featured by performances from artists from Zanzibar and Mainland. We have confirmations from Mad Ice with his two hit songs Wange and Baby Girl, Keisha, an artist who has conquered the hearts and minds of many music fans in Tanzania and outside will also perform with her popular hits Usinitenge, Huruma and Zawadi and Renee is to confirm!
