The Queen’s Young Leader Award aims to recognise exceptional people aged 18-29, who are taking the lead in their communities and using their skills to transform lives. Winners of this prestigious Award will receive a unique package of training, mentoring and networking, including a one-week residential programme in the UK during which they will collect their Award from Her Majesty The Queen. With this support, Award winners will be expected to continue and develop the amazing work they are already doing in their communities.

This year there were 1800 youth nominated for the award. The Advisory Panel shortlisted the names and another panel made of personnel from 3 partner organizations (The Royal Commonwealth Society, Comic Relief and The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust) made final decisions and chose the winners.

60 youths have been awarded this award of which in Tanzania there are two Given Edward and Angela Mnagoza:-

1) Given Edward

He has been awarded for his leadership activities in Tanzania and for his project which provides a platform for students in Tanzania to discuss subjects online. You can view it at www.myelimu.com. He created it last year in February and up to now we have more than 700 students registered.

It’s for students in O level and A level. He currently work at Tanzania Youth Vision Association as the Head of Research and Information, whom he has been working with for 4 years now. He also work with the Youth of United Nations in carrying out different activities and events.

Past achievements have also been helpful. He was awarded the best delegate in Dar es Salaam Model United Nations Conference 2012; and last year he was among 200 youth selected across Africa to attend the Africa Model United Nations Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

2. Angela Benedicto Mnagoza

Following the death of her mother and her aunt, Angela worked in domestic service where she was abused and exploited by her employer. She now promotes the rights of child domestic workers, educating this marginalised workforce and attempting to change attitudes towards them.
