East Africa to celebrate Bond’s 50th anniversary with SKYFALL premiere courtesy of Heineken

Yesterday, the much loved fiction character, James Bond turned 50 with the day having been declared the official Global James Bond day.

Bond, a character created by Ian Fleming, a British journalist and novelist in 1953 is the lead character in a series of novels, films, comics and video games that have been thrilling fans over the years. It is also notably, the longest running film franchise in the history of cinema since it hit the screens in 1962.

His character is based on a suave M16 secret service agent with the code name 007 residing in London but working internationally on various missions saving the world from chaos and catastrophe. The inspiration for his character came from a compound of spy agents and commandos that Fleming met during World War II.

It’s often said that if you live once, live like Bond. Perhaps his wide appeal comes from his flashy lifestyle – fast cars, gadgets, clothes, fine dining and drink, cigars and beautiful women.

To build on this 50 year on Bond fascination, Heineken Premium Lager beer recently launched a thrilling new TV and digital campaign, in anticipation of the release of the 23rd James Bond adventure, SKYFALL™, which sees Daniel Craig bring his explosive portrayal of James Bond to a Heineken ad for the very first time.

In addition to the celebration, Heineken will deliver the Bond experience to its East African consumers by simultaneously bringing the SKYFALL™, premiere events on October 25 to IMAX theatres in Kenya, Century Cinemax-Milimani City in Tanzania and Oasis in Uganda, a week ahead of its release in the region.

For an opportunity to win tickets to the premiere, movie lovers will need to participate in soon to be launched Heineken activations at select nightlife spots in the respective countries.

Some of the global celebrations include the release of a documentary, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007. It traces the work of film producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, and author Ian Fleming, in making Bond a global franchise.
