TANZANIAN model Zuhura Mrisho has been picked among the 17 semifinalists for this year’s Nokia Face of Africa to be held at the Sun City in South Africa on July 23.

Multichoice Public Relations Manager Lucy Kihwele said yesterday that the semifinalists were picked after an exciting search throughout the continent.

Model scouts Andiswa Manxiwa and Vicky Cursham visited 12 countries across Africa for the talent search.

Of the number, Lucy said, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia have two semi-finalists each, while Burundi, Ethiopia, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe have one each.

They are Keamogetse Basima (Botswana), Sandra Bigirimana (Burundi), Selamawit Teshale (Ethiopia), Catherine Hermaans-Yankey and Mirash Davis (Ghana), Doris Anjalo and Gertrude Ogada (Kenya) and Venantia Otto (Namibia).

Others are Haruna Aisha Danjuma and Ishioma Onyebo (Nigeria), Phumelele Mtshali and Melody Zulu (South Africa), Chiposwa Ngoyi and Beatrice Mubanga (Zambia), Muniirah Namakula (Uganda) and Delin Maiyiwa (Zimbabwe).

She said the semifinalists will take their next step to international fashion stardom at a Boot Camp in Botswana next month.

Thereafter, Lucy said, the girls will take to the catwalks at Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week in July to get a taste of competitive modelling.

The outgoing winner is Botswana’s Kaone Kario’s who is taking the fashion industry by storm. M-Net and Nokia are sponsors of the event.
