On February 14, 2014, Dar es Salaam took part in a global revolution to end violence against women. ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.
The event, which took place at the Q-Bar Oyster bay, brought activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities,women and men across the Dar es salaam in rising for justice in what was an informative and entertaining event. There was performances from La Poetista, dancing troupe and music that saw the rise and dance of many who attended. Celebrity sightings included designer Khadija Mwanamboka, Singer Nakaaya Sumari and former Miss Tz and author Nancy Sumari.
